Assessments at the Neurodevelopmental Diagnostic Center for Young Children

An NDCYC assessment helps identify the causes of a child's developmental delays and learning disabilities by evaluating the interaction between a child's brain, environment and learning function. By evaluating a child's abilities and unique learning style, NDCYC can assist in determining what therapeutic, medical and educational services are needed for a child to reach his or her full potential for success—in school and in life.

Dr. Carole Samango-Sprouse, the founder and director of NDCYC, is uniquely skilled at connecting a child’s "developmental dots." Through her more than two decades of training and experience, Dr. Carole Samango-Sprouse can see what a child's challenges are and how they can be overcome.

An NDCYC assessment is a comprehensive measure of a child’s developmental domains, and the NDCYC staff works individually with a child to evaluate:

Neuromotor: Upper and lower extremity function
Neurocognitive: Learning, cognitive skills, and educational potential
Speech and Language: Receptive, expressive, and oral-motor skills
Neurobehavioral: Attention, organization, activity and control

NDCYC's comprehensive testing facilitates and helps identify the need for evaluations by interventionists such as psychologists and physical, occupational and speech therapists.

With the information obtained from testing, recommendations can be made for optimizing a child’s neurodevelopmental progression. An NDCYC assessment is key to developing an appropriate therapeutic program and identifying the trained professionals who are needed to implement that program. In addition, a variety of strategies and, in consultation with medical professionals, pharmaceutical interventions may be implemented to optimize a child’s development and promote recovery.

NDCYC’s testing is premised on the belief that each neurodevelopmental disorder and learning disability has a characteristic neurobehavioral profile. By understanding the profile, the appropriate services can be implemented at the optimum time and for an adequate length of time. This is a cost-efficient way of helping a child who has learning differences and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
